First off, my apologies for such a long break between posts. I had three weeks of midterms and this week I caught up (well mostly) on house chores.
So...I got my dining room set from my aunt (we haven't had to buy much furniture at all...thank God for family getting new furniture and giving us their "old" stuff at just the right time!). At first I was going to attempt to re-upholster the chairs, since I thought matching that grayish-blue would be impossible. Then I saw these at Bed, Bath, & Beyond! MIRACLE!
The only problem is that the flowers are beige and brown and I don't want beige and brown in the dining room...I want black and silver. Silly, I know...but there's lots of beige and brown in the living room just next door and I don't want them to overtake the house :)

Check out that color match! |

Beige and brown...not what I want :( |
So...I decided I would just paint over the embroidered flowers! Supplies:
 |
Black and silver fabric paint, paintbrushes, and pallet/paper plate :) |
I won't give you actual directions since it's pretty simple...paint over the embroidery!

Oh and the Rusty assistant! |

Black over brown |

Inspecting my work as usual |

Some of the silver over the beige |

A completed panel in comparison with the original version |

DONE!!! |
 |
All three panels |
By the way, my work on the third panel was interrupted by a 5.6 earthquake. In Oklahoma. Two days later we had tornadoes, flooding, and an earthquake all in the same evening. Japan had an earthquake shortly after that one, and Afghanistan had a sand-storm, earthquake, and snow storm all around the same day. Crazy weather/plate tectonic plate action!!!
Also, the silver paint was a little thick, so I added a little water to it and it ended up working really well.

Drawn back to let Ranger see out his lookout post |
I have one or two more projects to post. Hopefully I'll be able to post more regularly over the next few weeks.
