Coasting Along...

While browsing pinterest , I fell in love with a pin from one of my friends about a craft project for coasters. I'll let you read the full directions there. It seemed fairly simple so I decided to try it.
Here are the supplies:

  • tiles
  • Mod Podge
  • water-resistant clear spray
  • foam brush
  • waterproof glue
  • felt
  • scrapbooking paper
  • paper trimmer (not necessary, but a big help!)

I wanted coasters for the kitchen, dining room, and living room - hence the various colors. I used my scrapbooking paper trimmer to cut these. I think it saved a lot of time and I know for sure the pieces are all square and even.
Blue, black and silver for the dining room; aqua, brown and beige for the living room; and fun bright colors for the kitchen.

You also need one trusty assistant! In my case, my almost 18-month old pup, Ranger.

Ready to help!

Here are the kitchen coasters just after applying the paper to the tile. I was already in love with this project at this point!!!
So pretty! Hopefully not too girly for the hubster...

I realized at this point it might be easier if your assistant doesn't shed. I had to pick several Ranger hairs out of the podge. I ended up using matte Mod Podge because I couldn't remember which one to get when I was at the store. I got glossy acrylic spray though, so they will have some sheen. I didn't want too much glare to detract from the pretties of the paper.

The bottom left coaster in the picture below has paper that will be used in the wedding scrapbook. Yes...I've been married over year and have yet to make the scrapbook. Don't judge me!!! The hubster wants to help me make it so I HAVE to wait...(that's right ladies, I have a crafty hubby!)

Kitchen, dining room, and living room sets!

I podged the coasters a total of 5 times, including the edges on the last two passes since some of the paper was overlapping the tile just a tiny bit.

Let's check in on our trusty assistant, shall we?

Oh! He's relocated and brought a toy.
Getting antsy!

I've only put the felt on the back of one coaster, I'll do the rest tomorrow before I put the clear acrylic finishing spray on them.

Tune in tomorrow for the finishing touches!!!
